Young Carers Sessional Bank Worker
Job Title: Young Carers Sessional Bank Workers to cover Sessional Workers role as and when required.
Description of Role:
The fundamental role of the sessional workers will be to regularly support with the delivery of group sessions to young carers as well as assisting with the planning of all programmes with young carers. Staff will be required to undertake basic assessments with all young carers, to support young carers with developing their own personalised action plan, which they can each work towards. Staff will be required to review and evaluate action plans with young carers, inorder to measure progress and highlight any areas of support that maybe required, whilst being able to identify how this will be actioned. There are written session evaluations which have to be completed after each session and passed to the CEO.
Kool Carers deliver sessions to primary young carers age 8 – 12 years and senior young carers age 13 – 18 years, so all staff must have relevant experience of working alongside young people within these age groups and should have a broad understanding of the barriers facing many young carers. Staff must demonstrate the ability to be able to engage effectively with young people, within a variety of different settings which include, creative arts, cooking, sport, drama and gardening. Whilst the positions are term time, we do endeavour to offer a summer programme and various activities within the school holidays, so additional hours maybe available.

Downtowner Youth Centre – Wickford
The Hermit Youth Centre – Brentwood
Principle Aim:
- To provide young carers with a safe environment to gain professional support and reduce the feelings of isolation that so many experience. It is through empowerment and guidance young carers will have the opportunity to develop their lifeskills and build resilience; enabling positive particpation within their own communities and the opportunity to experience that same life chances as other young people.
Key Duties:
To assist in the following:
- To attend, support and facilitate young carers groups and one to one sessions, working alongside staff, volunteers and trustees. (This will include evening and weekend work).
- To work with all staff and young carers to design programmes that support with maintaining the physical and emotional well-being of all young carers attending Kool Carers.
- To work in partnership with young carers, their families and professionals inorder to safeguard, protect and secure positive outcomes for young carers.
- To attend and engage in monthly supervision.
Qualifications and Experience :
Educated to GCSE or equivalent, with a relevant professional qualification which is focussed on working with young people, or demonstrably equivalent experience.
Experience of working with young people within group or one to one settings.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Experience of successfully involving young people and families in decision-making processes.
Be able to work on own initiative and within a team.
Be able to build excellent working relationships with people who have differing needs and abilities.
Respect and understand the ethos of Kool Carers.
Knowledge:
- An understanding of relevant legislation; Equal Opportunities and Safeguarding legislation and Practices.
Other Requirements:
- To be able to travel if required.
- Enhanced DBS (at Kool Carers expense where necessary)
Salary – This is a zero hours contract, salary will depend on qualifications and expereince.
Each session is 3 hours, as we facilitate sessions throughout the year, there maybe the opportunity for additional hours during school holidays for additional daytrips and activities.
