Darcey’s 2023 Christmas Present Appeal
Darcey is 10 years old and this will be the sixth year of Darcey’s Christmas Present Appeal.
It all started in September 2018 whilst at our local carnival, Burnham on Crouch Carnival. Darcey was intrigued as to why there were so many people within the parade carrying and shaking pots and buckets to collect money. Darcey wanted to know where the money went once it had been collected. After explaining to Darcey, the money was being collected for charity and what charity was, she decided that she wanted to do something to help others. This is when we decided that we were going to help others who may be less fortunate than Darcey at Christmas time.
Each year we design and print posters to advertise Darcey’s Christmas Present Appeal and take them to local shops for them to be displayed in. Darcey has been on the radio and in local newspapers over the years of her appeal, this year she would like me to try to get her on the tv! 🤣
Darcey is and has always been an extremely kind and caring g person, who puts the needs and wants of others before her own. Even her two younger brothers sometimes 🤣
We like to support local charities with the Christmas Present Appeal and after searching through Google for Essex based children’s charities, we came across Kool Carers. I explained to Darcey how Kool Carers work to support young carers who provide care to family members and Darcey decided that this was a great cause to support!
Last year Darcey managed to collect and donate over 440 gifts and each year we set ourselves a challenge of beating the previous year’s amount. Fingers crossed for this year!
