Shelley Masters
Councillor in Training & Sessional Support Worker
Hi I’m Shelley. I am currently a trainee counsellor and have begun working with both parents and children at Kool Carers as part of my placement. I have nearly finished my Diploma in counselling and have one year left until I become fully qualified and complete my practitioners course.
So far my experience at Kool Carers has been a positive one. I have enjoyed working therapeutically with both adults and children in helping them to help themselves. I have recently helped with the Kool Carers picnic and loved getting to know the children and having fun with them. I am also about to start helping out at the group sessions and I am really looking forward to working with the children in this capacity.
I have mostly lived in Essex and grew up in Rayleigh and in recent years have moved back here to bring up my four children aged 4, 6, 9 and 12. Before having children I studied History at university something I have always found fascinating as well as Psychology. I have an A level in Psychology and it was a toss up when I came to applying for university whether to opt for Psychology or History. I am pleased that now I have been able to pick up this interest in studying counselling. I love the different theories and learning how to apply them in therapy. I love listening to people and am naturally empathetic and non judgemental.
In my spare time I spend time with my family. I enjoy taking them for days out and spending quality time with them. I read a lot and enjoy walks in nature. I am very passionate about music and always love a concert. I am very sociable and enjoy catching up with friends. I have recently decided to take up paddle boarding and have my first session coming up soon!
