Hi! I’m Caroline and it’s my absolute privilege to work with Kool Carers as Rachel’s Practice Supervisor.
I moved to Essex in 1999 after completing my Masters in Social Work to take up a criminal justice role in Harlow, my first of a twenty year career taking me across Essex tackling in homelessness to managing cross-county teams. I am a qualified practice educator and university social work lecturer currently working on a Doctorate researching wellbeing. I am a trustee for a large Essex-based Youth charity.
I met Rachel as a final year social work student undertaking what became a brilliant dissertation, achieving a First overall.
I believe childhood is not simple. It can be a time for great fun but it’s also tough. Kool Carers, to me, is an opportunity for children to be children and parents to be parents. Family is everything, so I hope my practice support and encouragement of Rachel will help her to develop a robust, secure (and fun) space for young carers to call their space.
I am a mindfulness-based teacher previously spending an incredible three years founding a social enterprise to deliver mindfulness learning to schools, social workers and communities.
I strongly believe charities make a major contribution to our communities and deserve our support and encouragement. Without charities, social work and other professions couldn’t do what they do and may in fact do more because of these charities being so close to what families need and ask for.
I hope my practice supervision of Rachel supports her to challenge the status quo and advocate on behalf of young carers and their families.
I am a mum of two, Emily a Special Needs Learning Support Assistant, Japanese sweets enthusiast and Kool Carers volunteer, and Cameron, a secondary school teacher with a passion for Russian history. I recently taken up running, completing my first Parkrun, with plans to see in the rest of my 40s with all the challenges – big and small – I’ve put off until now.
